Road 12, Mirpur DOHS. Forty-eight hours before a Gaye Holud, the cousin flash mob climbs to the bride's family rooftop for its final rehearsal. Fairy lights hang half strung, marigolds wait by the water tank, and a speaker on a plastic chair loops Habib Wahid.
Choreographer Shuvo Rahman starts at 19:30 sharp with a whistle and a stopwatch. Bags go in the stair room. Water breaks fall at 20:30 and 21:00, and his red energy drink waits in the cooler. Nobody touches his can. At 21:30 he sits down and never gets up.
The doctor says his heart slowed until it stopped. He took no heart tablets, and the empty can smells bitter. Shuvo lent money, kept score and spoke his mind. The police come in the morning; before then, everyone on the roof talks.
