Shanti Nibash stands in a lane off Indira Road, Farmgate. On BCS preliminary result night the 4th-floor gas dies at 18:30, so the women's mess comes down to share the 3rd-floor men's kitchen. Rahima khala cooks one pot of khichuri with egg for both floors and leaves at 20:40.

At 21:47 the result link goes live and the BPSC website crashes. At 22:05 Rubel Hossain, mess manager for three years, eats his separate two-egg plate, calls it bitter, blames the beresta and goes to bed. At 23:10 the PDF loads. His roll number is there. He does not wake.

The gate is padlocked and the police are stuck in Farmgate traffic. Rubel wrote every taka in his green khata. Half the room owed him money; some say he owed them. Somebody here put something in his plate before 22:05, and nobody leaves until the khata talks.
