The night
BPL final night at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The Buriganga Bulls need 14 off the last over against the Padma Panthers. Their owner, garments tycoon Rezaul 'RK' Kabir, is hosting twelve guests in his glass corporate box. At 21:51 a boundary sets off the title sponsor's 'Boundary Blast' smoke burst. RK, who has had asthma all his life, reaches for his inhaler and breathes nothing. He is gone before the winning six. The police lock the box. Unpaid players, a desperate sponsor, a cousin who narrates every snack, the team doctor, the owner's wife and a young analyst who knows every number all had a reason to hate him. Ball-by-ball WhatsApp logs, a voice note and a pharmacy label hold the truth.
Heads-up: A death from an asthma attack, described but not shown, Match-fixing, illegal betting and a gambling problem, References to theatrical smoke (no real smoke is needed to play), Unpaid wages and workplace pressure.
